Danish Summer Style

0 Edit Artikel

Relaxed weekend style.

I love the rustic simplicity and 'back to basics' nature of Danish summer houses.

For the Danish it's all about paring things back, keeping it real and honest ...
exactly what a beach house or a weekender should be.
The focus is all about family, friends, relaxing, good food and
getting back in touch with nature.
Their summer houses are cute, cosy and full of character ...
a wonderful mix of vintage furniture, family treasures and flea market finds.
The colours are always restrained in a simple palette
of black, white and grey with light timbers to add warmth and texture.

How sweet is that kitchen with the curtain detail!

Scandi Decorating Tips

Scandi Design

10 Tips for achieving a Scandinavian interior ....

1. Floors
Wall to wall carpets never took off in Sweden and all truly Scandinavian interiors will have a wooden, preferably light, floor in all rooms apart from the bathrooms.

2. Colour
White walls and cool grey textiles definitely gives off the right ambience of a Scandinavian interior however soft, muted colours can be used for accessories and and accents.

3. Materials
Use wood to warm up the interior. Incorporate cladding on walls and even ceilings to add texture and warmth. Use a grey oil or limewash finish to take the yellow away from woods like pine or oak.

4. Form
Clean lines from architecture to furniture.

5. Function
A truly Scandinavian interior is practical and liveable.

6. Furniture
There are such incredible pieces from several manufacturers. From the mid-century period designers like Hans Wegner, Alvar Aalto and Arne Jacobsen stand out and their pieces are just as beautiful today as they were when they were conceived.

7. Put a fireplace in the corner
Scandinavian winters are harsh so most apartments and houses have a fireplace in the living room. They are often not the focal point of a room, they are often very simple columns (many originals from the 19th century are beautifully tiled) and are located in the corner of the room.

8. Be eco-friendly
Swedes have been very quick to add eco-friendly aspects to their houses. Double-glazing, proper insulation for walls and roofs, ground source heat pumps … all these are fairly standard in Swedish new builds.

9. Add an outside/ inside room
Scandinavians, like Australians, generally love a connection with the outdoors so you’ll find a balcony or terrace in even the smallest apartments. These are usually decked and used for barbequeing and entertaining outdoors during the late light nights of the summer.

10. Scale back on accessories
Declutter! Keep interiors pared back and accessories to a minimum.

Organic Textures

If you are looking to re-create a Scandi feel in your beach house ~
start with a pared back palette of white and grey.
A sense of warmth and a 'beachy' vibe can be achieved by using
various organic materials and textiles.
Rustic and recycled timbers in light tones work a treat,
then start layering other natural materials on top of that.
Leather, animal hide, fur, white washed cane, wool and organic fabrics
will add texture and interest as well as a sense of comfort.

Simple, stylish and relaxed!

This small cottage measures only 39m2 but the cosiness makes up for the lack of space. In this tranquil place the owners can escape from their busy lives and daily worries.
Going to the beach and cooking in the outdoor kitchen … life here is simple but good!

I love the cute little guest bedroom nestled in the garden
Equally perfect as a studio, potting shed or cubby house.

Nordic White + Blonde Timber

0 Edit Artikel

White + bright with a touch of wood.

Scandinavia is notorious for its cold, dark winters;
so Nordic style is all about maximising light in the home.
Scandinavian interiors invariably begin with a blank canvas of white walls
and often white painted timber floorboards.
Bright, white is the colour of choice,
other colours are introduced through accessories and decor.
Light, natural wood is a hallmark of Scandi design and
is used to add warmth and texture.
