Tropical Paradise

I stumbled across this luxury villa in Barbados … and thought, this is just the place to be right now. Those sun-loungers, the pool overlooking the Caribbean sea, the open plan living and the indoor / outdoor feel … just perfect. All I need to complete the picture is a cocktail, a hammock and a good book!

Feel like you are on vacation all the time by decorating your house with a tropical theme.

Carmen Miranda knew a thing or two about island style!
Think vivid green, bright colours, exotic fruit and tropical flowers.
To create this look at home ~ mix and match bold patterns,
cane, bamboo and lush indoor plants.
Potted palms will help bring the outside in and will create an indoor oasis.
Add some statement furniture pieces
like a swinging chair, a day bed
or something exotic from Asia or the Caribbean.
Decorate coffee tables and bookshelves
with coral, beautiful travel books and shells for a touch of the Bahamas!

Tropical Oasis

Now this is my kinda house ~ it has all of my favourite elements:-
white weatherboards, tropical gardens, return veranda, period features,
plenty of character ... and a pool to boot!
I love the tropical, holiday feel to this renovated home …
loads of white, greys and warm woods, offset by beautiful lush green palms & ferns …
the swinging daybeds look pretty amazing too!

How to create a tropical decor scheme.

If you're after a tropical style beach house then the easiest way to achieve this is by recreating the palettes found in tropical foliage and flowers. Start with shades of green ~ you might be drawn to muted tones such as deep sea green, or you may opt for brighter greens that are saturated and vibrant like lime. Spice things up with warm tones, such as coral, fuchsia, red, burnt orange and yellow, that are often found in exotic flowers. Mix these vibrant shades back with lots of white and rich timber tones. Decorate with lively patterns to reflect the lush vegetation and gorgeous flowers of a tropical setting. Exotic birds and animals, such as parrots and monkeys, add a dash of humour and whimsy. Add beauty and color to the walls with prints of tropical flowers and botanicals. Add a palm or two, bowls of tropical fruit and some potted orchids to feel like you are permanently on holiday in the Tropics!
